In February 2020, IV Offshore & Energy and HSM Offshore awarded MELCAL with a contract for the delivery of two SL500 stiff boom cranes for UK-based Independent Oil & Gas (IOG) Notwithstanding the complexity of the project and the many challenges and limitations that we faced due to the Covid pandemic, MELCAL successfully delivered, installed, and commissioned two ATEX diesel driven cranes for the normally unmanned installation (NUI) platforms Southwark and Blythe. In line with the end client’s operating philosophy to minimise ongoing costs and carbon intensity, and to scale up an environmentally low-impact UK gas development and production business, MELCAL
furnished cranes, featuring modern Tier 4 diesel engines to help reduce the amount of particulate matter (PM), or black soot, and nitrogen oxides (NOx) by 99% versus the prevailing emission standards of 1996. The recent load-out, transport and installation of the Southwark and Blythe platforms mark the completion of IOG’s core project phase 1, which entails the development and exploitation of three natural gas fields in the UK Southern North Sea. With operations now safely underway, we would like to thank IV Offshore & Energy, HSM Offshore and IOG for the opportunity, support, and trust placed in MELCAL.
